九州工業大学製図室Drawing studio in Kyushu Institute of Technology (public building)

九州工業大学は1909年に開校した国立大学法人である。建学100周年にあたる2009年に建築学コースが新設され、教育環境を整備するため設計製図のためのスペースが求められた。しかし、キャンパスのレイアウト上、新しく校舎を建設することは困難であるため、1974年に建設され、現在利用されていないボイラー室を改修して設計製図棟を作ることになった。法的条件により既存の構造体に頼ることは許されない。従ってフロアを入れ子状態で挿入し、自立させた。さらに床・建具・天井と透過性のある材料を用いることにより、仕切られていても他学年の生徒の気配を感じることが出来、質の高い熱環境を得ることを可能にした。この場所で学生同士が切磋琢磨してくれることを期待している。

Kyushu Institute of Technology is a national university opened in 1909. The architectural course was newly established in 2009, which is the 100th anniversary of the university, since then a space for design and drawing was sought in order to improve the educational environment. Due to the difficulties on constructing a new building in the campus, it was decided to rebuild the boiler room which was built in 1974. Based on the existing conditions, the additional floor was constructed as a nested floor. Furthermore, the floors, joinery, and ceilings, are using permeable material, making it possible to obtain a high quality thermal environment so that students can work productively.
