学生によるインターンシップレポート 北九州市立大学 大学院2年 Iryna Baran

Iryna ,a Ukrainian international student, participated in our office  internship program. She reported on her experiences during her two-week internship.
ウクライナの留学生であるイレーナさんが弊社のインターンシップに参加してくれました。約2週間のインターンシップの中で感じたことをレポートしてくれました。

My name is Iryna Baran and I am international student from Ukraine in the second year of master design course at the University of Kitakyushu. I participated in a two-week internship program at Furumori Koichi Architectural Design Studio.

For me, as a student from Ukraine, where the traditions, regulations, and style of building design are radically different from architectural practices in Japan, it was extremely interesting and useful to participate in this internship. This was my first internship in Japanese company, so I was very excited and a little nervous during first days, but team members were so nice and friendly and helped me a lot even when it was hard for me to speak Japanese.

During my internship I helped to make architecture models of landscape and also I was working on the design of floor plans of projects Mirikaroden Nakagawa and Ecoplant. Extremely interesting was that the internship felt like a real job in a friendly team with shared lunches, morning briefings and cleaning activities every Monday.

I also had the opportunity to visit real projects that have been designed by architecture office.

We started our tour from renovated cultural complex Mirikaroden Nakagawa, that impressed me by its scale, design solutions, and symbolism. This is the place for community of the city, where people of different age and interests can find all their needs. Also, I like the idea of Mirika Path which lays along the building and connect library with entrance area.

In Horin Temple Main Hall I was impressed by the understanding of the idea of a modern temple, the combination of traditional planning customs with modern architectural techniques and materials.

I was very happy to have opportunity to visit two ossuaries – Senso Temple Columbarium and Unlimited Light Myoenji Columbarium. It was my first experience to visit this type of facility. These buildings have the same function and similar architecture methods but completely different atmosphere and impression of the ossuary.

Inside the Senso Temple Columbarium there was a sense of silence, calm and monumentality of the building due to the dark lighting. It was very interesting to see how architect`s idea can be integrated inside the project.

On the other hand, Unlimited Light Myoenji Columbarium because of its roof concept and wooden elements is light place devoid of the feeling of sadness because its bright and warm atmosphere.

Also, I visited Fukuoka Bar Association Hall, Ecoplant and Drawing studio in Kyushu Institute of Technology where I understood and studied how to work with different types of public buildings, their space, functional requirements, building materials etc.

In addition to public buildings, I had the opportunity to visit two residential buildings, where I got acquainted with the traditions of Japanese housing construction. What I liked most was the combination of traditional elements, concise design and modern materials.

Despite the short internship period, I was able to fully experience what it’s like to work in an architectural office, search for ideas and concepts for new buildings, and create modern Japanese architecture.

I would like to express my deepest gratitude to everyone at Furumori Koichi Architectural Design Studio for introducing me amazing Japanese architecture and work life with friendly team.
